Beyond the Building Campaign
Plans for proposed new recreation center
Remember the Rec Center behind Lind Hall? It is one of the oldest student buildings on campus and has fallen on tough times. It used to be a gathering place for the student body back in the day. There used to be lots of activity from pool tournaments, movies and multiple events to a place to use your computer. Originally built as a hardware store in the 1930’s, it just doesn’t lend itself to yet another renovation. To fulfill Oxford’s needs the most efficient road to create a truly useful “rec center” is to demolish the existing building and build anew on approximately the same footprint.
We want to create an entirely new space that would become the centerpiece where students can once again interact with one another and build those lifetime friendships that we always hear about from our alumni. We are also in need of additional meeting space. As we have been introducing more and more collaborative opportunities for our students, including public speaking, peer debate and senior seminars, we are finding that we need more space to accommodate the changing educational landscape. We can do all this in a new space, not much larger than the existing center, designed from the ground up to help fulfill our students educational and social needs.
The cost of the new space would be about $600,000.We already have raised $225,000 specifically dedicated to this effort. Please help us support this capital effort to allow Oxford to carry on their good work by clicking on the link and indicating that your gift is for the Student Rec Center, the Beyond the Building Campaign.
