Why am I being asked every year to give to Oxford's Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund plays a vital role in the financial strength of our school by providing for expenses not covered by tuition or interest from endowment. Oxford is a non-profit, independent organization that operates without financial assistance from any public source. As tuition dollars meet only part of the actual cost for educating a student, we need to raise additional funds to support the gap between income and the operating cost of the boarding school in Connecticut.
Does tuition cover the full cost of an Oxford education?
Tuition at Oxford, as with most independent schools, does not cover the full cost of the education. We estimate that tuition makes up 80% of that cost.
How are gifts to the Annual Fund spent?

All of the money raised through the Annual Fund is put into the operating budget for that year. Among many necessities this includes: academic programs; teachers’ salaries and benefits; library acquisitions; teaching tools, educational technology and equipment; continuing education for faculty and staff; extracurricular activities; student support, athletic programs; and buildings and grounds maintenance.

 

If the school were run in a more business-like manner, couldn't Oxford charge the full cost of tuition and avoid having to ask for gifts?
Independent schools are unlike for-profit businesses whose mission is to make money. Oxford’s mission is to provide high quality education. Top quality schools can’t streamline cost by increasing class size and reducing staff. Well-qualified teachers and individualized, high quality programs can’t be achieved without the support and generosity of our annual giving community, including alumni, parents, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends of Oxford.
Why is my participation in Annual Fund critical?
Independent schools represent a unique form of education in our society, and independence demands an above-average commitment on the part of its members. For over 100 years The Oxford Method of individualized instruction has made a positive impact on the lives of the students and on their families. Participation is as critical a component as the dollar amount given. Please demonstrate your support by making a gift at a level that is right for you.
What is a matching gift?

Many employers will match a gift you make to a non-profit or charitable organization. Ask your employer for a matching gift form to help extend your support to Oxford even further.

What are the ways to give to Oxford Academy?
Gifts to the Annual Fund can be made by cash, check, stock, or credit card. Pledges can also be made but need to be paid by the end of the fiscal year on August 31.
